At present, there is no way to sync TB 6.0 under linux with Memotoo. No program will work. The windows version for TB 6.0 does indeed work but not the linux version. The service is effectively useless without support for TB 6.0. Everything works fine with TB 3.* or LOWER but not higher. When will there finally be a version that will work with linux and TB 6.0?

Really? This is very, very interesting. Thank you for sharing this information because other people have the same problem as I do also. Could you please note exactly which version of Zindus you are using? Thanks.

Thanks for the information but TB 6 with Zindus under Fedora 15 still does not work. I tested now the same with Xubuntu (not Ubuntu) and also this did not work for the same reasons. I can connect and confirm the configuration but still cannot sync. Although Xubuntu has the same base as Ubuntu, maybe there is indeed something about Xubuntu preventing the sync, although I doubt it.

My last attempt would be to ask you what version of Ubuntu you are using and which version of TB 6 (did you download it from the website or are you using a ppa)? Maybe the problem is not with Zindus but with TB. And if you use a ppa, please tell me which one.

I know this is all work, thanks for helping me out.

I used Ubuntu 11.04 with the thunderbird stable ppa until last week and it worked perfectly.
Now I use Ubuntu 11.11 (which will be in beta in a few days) but I do not use thunderbird from it as it is Thunderbird 7 and Zindus does not work with it AFAIK. So I downloaded Thunderbird 6 from the mozilla website.

One issue I faced first time I synced is that Zindus created an additionnal Addressbook (named zindus/...). You should not remove it even if Zindus will sync with your default addressbook.

Thanks for the info but this still does not work. Installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, used your Zindus file indicated (0.8.36.20110711.093940) which is actually from the Zindus website itself and installed TB 6 from the stable ppa. I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out why it works with you.

What I did notice is that you claimed that Zindus created an extra address book. This never happened with me and I even tried 100 variations of address books to see if that would help but it seems it does not.

I am running out of ideas but I do have one last one. Did you use Zindus with a version of TB before 5 or 6? If you did an TB update on a system that worked with Zindus (like TB 3 with Zindus), maybe this would help to explain.

Other than that I have no idea why this works for you because it is really not the complicated and it seems we are doing the exact same things.

Any other clue?

smile Posted 2011-08-30 - 21:48     Subject: [Solved] Memotoo Sync with Thunderbird 6.0 Linux

I have discovered a solutiion that will now allow TB 6 under Ubuntu to work with Zindus and sync. Here is what I did:

1. Using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (this should work on any Ubuntu), install TB 3.' (you must install TB 3.* first, not TB 5 or 6). The most important part is to first install TB 3.*.

2. Install the Zindus add-on. For me, I used the standard version available on the Memotoo website.

3. Sync for the first time under TB 3.*. Now and only now did the sync work for the first time and also created a new address book called zindus/Emailed Contacts. This seemed to be the critical point. This add book was never created under TB 5 or TB 6 and there was no message that it needed to be created either so it was impossible to find the mistake.

4. Update to TB 6. I simply added the stable ppa from Mozilla and updated my TB to 6.

5. Zindus will now work with TB 6 perfectly and sync correctly.

It seems you cannot install Zindus directly into a fresh install of TB 6 and the worst part is that it gives you no indication that you even needed a special address book for this. By the way, if you accidently delete this special address book, Zindus will now inform you that it is missing and offer to replace it. All this never happened on a direct install of Zindus to TB 6.

My best regards to Olivier for his tip about the address book which pointed me in the right direction to solve this issue in the first place.

The only interesting point left is what would happen if you tried installing to TB 6 directly and manually added the address book as noted above. If this DOES work, then even better but after working on this for a month, I do not want to try this.

Maybe a note to the webmaster of Memotoo: If you really can simply add the address book to TB 6 under linux to solve the installation problems, maybe you could post this on the website to inform other users that may go through the same problems like I had. If somebody wants to test this, go for it.

Again thanks to Olivier for pointing me in the right direction. This is how a forum should work. Merci.

As far as I remember, I started using Zindus with Memotoo over the Zimbra "protocol" mid of August and started directly from TB6 (I used previously Zindus but I synced to Google Contacts.
One thing that may impact (maybe one need to test that) is that I started with an emty addressbook in Thunderbird so Zindus downloaded all my contacts from memotoo.
David, did you have contacts in thunderbird before starting zindus sync ?

smile Posted 2011-09-08 - 13:17     Subject: Update on Ubuntu Linux

Sorry for the delay, I had to travel. Just to figure out where the problem was, I installed Ubuntu 10.04 and tested all possible configurations that I could think of to find a solution and now I have found it and also know why Zindus could not sync with either Fedora or Ubuntu.

Instead of going into detail, I will keep it just as short as the solution is:

You must enable cookies in Thunderbird or Zindus will not sync.

That's it. My firewall was preventing this with Fedora and then I always turned off accepting cookies in TB with Ubuntu, this will cause Zindus not to sync, you must enable cookies. If you do not want cookies in TB (which is wise), you can turn them off but add an exception to allow cookies from sync.memotoo.com, that will also work.

That is the solution. Again, Kudos to Olivier for pointing me in the right direction in the first place.
