Hello,

I have some problems with synchronization between mobile phone (Nokia 6267) and Memotoo. I deleted all contacts from my mobile phone (having contacts in Memotoo). Then I started sync with my mobile. That was OK. When I did another synchronization with my phone (immediatelly after the first one, with no changes in the address book), some of my contacts are duplicated (but not all of them). It means, I have two records for one person in mobile and in Memotoo. When I did another synchronization, the same contacts (and also the duplicated ones) are duplicated again. Now it means, I have 4 records for one person in mobile and in Memotoo. Do you have any idea what's the problem? I didn't notice any similarity among the contacts, that have been duplicated. Some of them contain only phone numbers, some of them only email address, some of them both, some of them contain home addres or work address or both, etc. Could you check this problem, please?

Thank You very much in advance,
Martin

Hello Martin

The problem is that your phone try to add contacts to Memotoo but there is network error I saw in the log file that Memotoo don't receive a valid WBXML data)

So is it possible for you to delete all your contacts in your Nokia 6267, and sync again with Memotoo ? -> all contacts in Memotoo will be added to your phone.

Hello Thomas,

Thank you for your reply. I can delete all my contacts in phone, that's not a problem. After the sync I will have all contacts in phone again, that's also OK. But after another sync, some of my contacts will be duplicated in the phone and also in memotoo. Do you want me to do this synchronization to provide some logs in your system?

Hello,

Well, I deleted all my contacts in the phone and make the sync again (15.1.2010, cca 9:52). I hope you will be able to find where the problem is. Please, let me know whether I can (or shall) make the sync again.

Thank you very much,

Hello Martin

Ok I have changed something.
1. Can you delete again your contacts on your phone ? And force a sync from Memotoo ?
2. Sync after a normal sync.

If it's OK, delete the duplicates in Memotoo and sync again.

Hello Thomas,

I'm sorry but nothing has changed for me. I deleted all my contacts from the phone. I forced a sync from Memotoo (22.1. cca 15:40). To this point, everything was OK, as before. Next step - sync again (22.1. cca 15:41) - again duplicating. Now, I have some of my contact 4x. I will keep my adress book as it is, i will not delete duplicating contacts now, nor making any changes. Can you, please, take a look at this problem again?

Hello Thomas,

could you, please, give me some information about my problem? My address book is messy now and I would like to make it normal again. Are you able to make the synchronization working as it is supposed or should I stop using Memotoo for cell phone synchronization?

Thank you for reply,

Martin

Hi Martin

It's very strange because it's only with your phone (Nokia 6267 - may be a little old) that this problem came ...

So I have added a exception for your account and your phone, and normally it will be OK. So:
1. Can you delete again your contacts on your phone ? And force a sync from Memotoo ?
2. Sync after a normal sync.

Hi Thomas,

I followed your instructions again and after the first force sync I was not able to do another sync (phone reported some data or connection error). However, I restarted my phone and made another sync and everything looked well, no duplicates. Afterwards I made some changes in the adressbook using Memotoo server and Thunderbird and synced again - again everything OK. Finally, I made some changes in the phone and synced again - I have to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH because everything is working as expected.

I do not know why my phone behaves so strangely and I am surprised that I am the only one who has this problem. However, thank you very much once more.

Martin

Hi Thomas,

I know that you are not very glad to see another post from me However, you solved my problem before and I would like to ask you one more question. I synced my Memotoo adressbook with Facebook and then with my phone. Everything is working fine but each time the amount of transferred data between phone and Memotoo is enormous (and, of course, expansive) - approximatelly 10 times more than before Facebook sync. It's probably caused by photos that are assigned to my contacts after Facebook sync. However I would expect that the amount of data is huge just for the first time (when the photos are transferred) and when no change is made, than it should be minimal. Could you, please tell me (in case that the syncing is OK this way) how can I minimize the amount of data or if it is possible to disable the photos synchronization?

Thank you very much in advance,

With regards,
Martin Gruber

smile Posted 2010-04-02 - 15:45     Subject: Re: Duplicating contacts

Hi Thomas,

I have found out that I have 2 various possibilities to sync my phone with Memotoo (I can do it in 2 various ways - 2 different options in the menu). The first one, which I have been using till now, takes a lot of time and huge amount of data is transferred. The second one is quick, and very little data is transferred. I do not see any difference in the result of these two approaches. Since now, I am going to always use the quicker method, and everything seems to be alright. Also the bug regarding addresses is partly fixed using this way (or you have already fixed it) - the address is still copied into the phone also like a note but this note is not transferred into the Memotoo contact note during the next sync anymore.

With regards,
Martin

Julien, votre Nokia 2630 n'a pas été synchronisé depuis le 26 janvier 2010 avec Memotoo ? comment pouvez-vous dire qu'il y a des doublons ?

smile Posted 2010-04-06 - 10:43     Subject: Re: Re: Duplicating contacts

Well, in my Nokia's menu there are these options:
1) Contacts -> Synchronise all
2) Settings -> Connectivity -> Data transfer -> Server sync

The second option has to be configured before (and it is a little bit complicated, more than the first option - there is a tutorial on this website) but it is the quicker method. The first one probably do what it is supposed to do - synchronise ALL contacts regardless of being changed or not. The second one finds changes and synchronise just them.

To Thomas: There is still the problem with addresses I described in another post. The contact's address (from Memotoo) is saved as an address AND as a note in the phone. During the next sync, the note (from phone) is saved as a note in Memotoo. Further, this note (from Memotoo) is saved as second note in the phone, ... However, the sync is now done only when some changes were made, so the accumulation of addresses in notes is not so extensive

Thank you for taking a look at it.

Hi Thomas,
Well, I added an address to the first contact in my phone addressbook (in alphabetical order), his name is "Adamčík Míra", and synchronized. You can check it. However, everything is OK now. The problem is supposed to happen during next sync. If I change e.g. phone number of this contact and synchronize, afterwards there will be his address in my phone also as a note. Let me know what you need me to do next.

bonjour thomas !

Cordialement julien

Martin, modify this contact "Adamčík Míra" on Memotoo, sync again, and now is the address always in note ??

Julien, à mon avis si vous forcez une synchronisation complète Memotoo -> Nokia, les contacts seront maintenant envoyés qu'une seule fois car le problème qu'il y avait a été réglé.

smile Posted 2010-04-07 - 16:33     Subject: Re: Duplicating contacts

I changed the contact and synchronized Memotoo with the phone. Everything seemed to be OK, so I made more changes: deleted the false notes, synchronized with Facebook (btw. this forces the phone to synchronize almost all of my Facebook friends with Memotoo - but it is OK except long lasting sync and great amount of data) and during these modifications I synchronized Memotoo with the phone from time to time. In the end it seems that everything is OK and the problem has been fixed. However, I would let you know if any address became a note again

This problem was about home addresses. However, I will try some experiments regarding work address - in my phone there is just one field for address, so I think there will be a problem again (maybe not). I do not know, where the work address will be placed or if it is synchronized at all. Before, sometimes the work address became home address, sometimes it disappeared... Let's see

Thank you for your work!!!

P.S. I hope you don't think I am just looking for some troubles. I hope that finding bugs could help you to improve this excellent service.

Hi Thomas,

So, I make some synchronizations with my phone again to find out what happens with work addresses. I set a work address of one of my contacts in Memotoo. When synchronizing with the phone, the work address was not transferred into the phone (as expected because the phone doesn't have any field for a work address). However, after another sync, the work address disappeared also from Memotoo.
