When a new contact is synced from Thunderbird (Windows, Funambol) to Memotoo the "Home Address" data is transferred to the "Home Address" fields in Memotoo. This is intuitive and expected.

As long as the contact is not edited in Memotoo syncing works fine.

However, if the contact is opened for editing in the Memotoo web interface things go astray. After having saved the contact the next sync will result in the "Other Address" fields from Memotoo overwriting the "Home Address" fields in Thunderbird. This happens even if no data is changed. Just pressing "Modify" followed by "Submit" is enough.

The "Other Address" fields will be empty if the contact was created in Thunderbird so the second sync will result in the home address field being deleted. Actually the data is still on Memotoo. However, if just one field in the "Home Address" is edited in Thunderbird, the following sync will result in all the "Home Address" fields on Memotoo being wiped clean - including ones that were not edited. Now the data is truly gone.

The same behavior is seen with the Email field in Thunderbird. It gets overwritten by the "E-mail (Other)" field from Memotoo, which typically will be empty.

I don't see any good reason for this behavior and hope it can be changed so the "Home Address" fields in Memotoo always sync with the "Home Address" fields in Thunderbird. Likewise with the Email field.

I have seen exactly this behavior regarding "Other Address" and "Home Address". Also using Thunderbird/Lightning/Funambol together with Memotoo.

Ok now the fields "Home Address", "Business Address" and "Other Address" will sync well between Thunderbird and Memotoo.
Sorry for this bug.

Try again and tell me if there was a problem.

Thank you for the quick response. I have tested again and still find problems.

The mapping of fields between Thunderbird and Memotoo is now as expected, except if data is entered online in the "Other Address" fields (e.g. a country name is selected). In that case the mapping changes so that;

1) In Thunderbird the Home Address fields will be populated with data from Memotoo's
"Other Address"; however,

2) Updates to Thunderbird's "Home Address" fields will continue to change the
"Home Address" fields in Memotoo.

A detailed step-by-step example;

1) A new address card with information in fields is created in Thunderbird

2) Sync with Memotoo using the Funambol add-on

Result as expected. The data goes to the right fields on Memotoo.

3) In Memotoo add data to the "Other Address" fields, e.g. select a country.

4) Sync with Memotoo using the Funambol add-on

Result: wrong mapping of Memotoo's "Other Address" fields to Thunderbirds "Home Address" fields:

Memotoo Thunderbird
---------------------------------------------------------------
Street / Address (Other) -> Home Address
City (Other) -> home City
State / Province (Other) -> Home County
ZIP (or Postal) Code (Other) -> Home Post Code
Country (Other) -> Home Country

5) Delete the "wrong" Home address fields in Thunderbird

6) Sync with Memotoo using the Funambol add-on

Result: The "Home address" fields are emptied on Memotoo although the data shown
in Thunderbird is from the Memotoo's "Other Address" fields!!

It's strange because I can't arrive to reproduce your example and this problem ....
But I have modified something. Can you tell if now it's OK ?

What is your version of Thunderbird ??

Sorry for not having time to re-test until now.

The problem is solved! The fields Home/Other map consistently as expected.

It was tested using Vista, Thunderbird 2.0.0.21 with funambol Mozilla Sync Client 0.9.1.

Keep the nice work up!

Hi,
Unfortunately I still have the same problem (with e-mail addresses) pretty much as described already.
The following steps summarised the tests I made.

Test1 (Creating a new contact in TB and syncing to MemoToo with Funambol TB plugin)
1. Create new contact with First Name, Last Name and Email address (tb1, test, tb1@mail.com)
2. Synced to Memotoo
3. New contacted added correctly to Memotoo
4. Changed Email address in Memotoo ( tb1@mail.com2)
5. Synced to TB
6. TB Email field now blank !!!!
7. TB "Additional Email" field now contains changed Email

Test2 (Creating a new contact in MemoToo and syncing to TB with Funambol TB plugin)
1. Create new contact with First Name, Last Name and Email address (memo1, test, memo1@mail.com)
2. Synced to TB
3. New contacted added correctly BUT
4. TB Email field blank !!!!
5. TB "Additional Email" field contains Email address

Hopefully you can help.
Many thanks

Alex

Same problem here... I'm using Vista Home with Thunderbird 2.0.0.22 + Funambol Sync 0.9.1

The fields "E-Mail" and "Zusätzliche E-Mail" get mixed-up while syncing.

Another problem: My field "Anzeigename" is formatted like this: "Family Name, Name"
But when syncing with Memotoo, the comma is removed.

Would be glad, if you could fix that.

I understand this a little strange to accept how it's work but there is no problem
When you sync Memotoo and Thunderbird, the fields:
- "Memotoo home email address" will be "ThunderBird Additional Email"
- "Memotoo work email address" will be "ThunderBird Email"
For ThunderBird "Additional Email" is the "Home email" and "Email" is the "Work Email".

Alex, the comma is removed but now you can configure "Family Name, Name" in the settings:

Thanks for the reply, but it is not working as you describe it.

Regarding the comma-issue, memotoo's web-interface now shows a comma, but then I hit "sync" in my Thunderbird, and all commas (also the ones that have never been touched) are erased - while still being visible in the web-interface. That's pretty nerve-wrecking considering that I added a comma manually to all email-adresses just a few days ago.

Then I tried the field-mapping. I copied some of the mail-adresses from the "Zusätzliche Email"-field into the standard "Email"-field. I synced it up, it shows perfectly fine in my local adressbook, but Thunderbird's standard "Email"-field shows up in memotoo's "Home email field". So it seems to be the other way round as what you said in your last post.

The comma will be added to the contacts in Thunderbird if you sync again them with Memotoo. If they are not modified in Memotoo they are not synced again.

Ok I forget one thing:
If you move "ThunderBird Additional Email" to "ThunderBird Email", Memotoo will not put the email in "Memotoo work email address" because may be it's not that you want to do.
But if you modify the email moved, Memotoo will put the email in "Memotoo work email address".

smile Posted 2009-07-08 - 17:22     Subject: Re: Wrong mapping of fields between Thunderbird and Memotoo

Hi Thomas,
There are two points I'd like to pick up on.

1) I think there still is a problem because when you add the contact in TB and sync to memotoo the fields are mapped differently depending upon whether one of the email fields is left blank.
So if you add a contact in TB with BOTH mail fields entered then they map to MemoToo as you described ie.
- "ThunderBird Email" ==> "Memotoo work email address"
- "ThunderBird Additional Email" ==> "Memotoo home email address"

BUT if you add a contact with EITHER of the mail fields left blank then the non-blank mail field always maps to "Memotoo home email address".
This is where the confusion is as the field mapping is not consistent.

My problem is most of my contacts only have 1 email address which must be held in the "TB Email" field. So if I create a new TB contact and sync to MemoToo I cannot afford to update it in MemoToo as it will blank out the "TB Email" when I next sync!!

The only option I can see is to only create contacts in MemoToo using the "Memotoo work email address" which should then sync correctly with the "TB Email" field. This is a work around but definitely not ideal as it is natural to add contacts from within the TB mail client.

2) My second point is why can you not have an option to map the fields the other way round ? ie.
- "ThunderBird Email" ==> "Memotoo home email address"
- "ThunderBird Additional Email" ==> "Memotoo work email address"

I hope I have explained the problem ok and look forward to your reply.

Regards,
Brent

1) OK Brent, you have seen well, now if you create a contact with only a "TB Email", the email will be in "Memotoo work email address"

2) Sorry but you can't map the field ...

Hi Thomas,

Excellent!!

I have re-tested and it all seems to work ok now.
Pity about not being able to map the other way round but many thanks for your very quick response.

Cheers,
Brent
