Hi,

I tried to configure evolution & thunderbird on ubuntu 13.04 according to the standard installation guide at " https://www.memotoo.com/de/index.php?rub=infoAnnuaireLdap". In addition to the entry-fields shown in the guide, Thunderbird 17.0.7 has a "BIND-DN" Field, but I don t know what to fill in. Finally it s not working. Thunderbird & Evolution showing: zero contacts (no error message). My addressbook has more than zero contacts, so there must be something wrong.

Hi Theo

It is strange because normally it works fine with Thunderbird... Use Base DN and not Bind DN
I have updated the screenshot to better configure your Thunderbird:

It s really not working and I have no special configurated Ubuntu. When I looked on your new picture I noticed that the "Find" button is not active (grey). Is that ok or should that be active?
The dc is exactly that, shown in the guide. Do I need some packages installed before using ldap or maybe ldap is blocked by apparmor ?
--
dc=mydc; If its really the firewall, exists an apparmor profile for ldap?

"netstat -ano|grep 389|grep LISTEN" -> no output data -> no program is listening

"Find" must be inactive.
You have replaced the Base DN "dc=xxxxx" with yours "dc=1234" -> found here after login: https://www.memotoo.com/index.php?rub=infoAnnuaireLdap
May be you have a firewall that block connection to port 389...

What is the best way to find out what blocks ldap?

telnet ldap.memotoo.com 389
Trying 88.190.31.67...
Connected to dd32442.memotoo.com.
Escape character is '^]'.
Connection closed by foreign host.

That s what I get. Seems to be connected, but then closed by memotoo (?)

"nmap 127.0.0.1 -p 389" is not good, prefer: nmap 88.190.31.67 -p 389.

I have seen in the LDAP log, there is connection with your account (for example at 2013-07-17 02:50:56 GMT+1). Have you connect other app ?

I tried to connect via Evolution and Thunderbird (without success). I tested telnet ldap.memotoo.com 389.
I forgot to mention, when the ldap-Addressbook is new created and tries to connet first time I get a passwor request, I insert my memotoo passw. with success (no error), but that s all.

So your computer can connect to Memotoo LDAP on port 389.
Can you send me (at webmaster@memotoo.com) a screenshot of your settings in Thunderbird to see if it is OK ?

smile Posted 2013-07-18 - 14:58     Subject: Re: cannot connect to LDAP

to your questions:
1. LDAP is set for my Email Account: (equal to your screenshot 171.png)

2. I have tried to write (Thunderbird is set to use memotoo ldap for completion) emails and the contact name is completed. BUT
Unfortunately Thunderbird show s Names that are only in my local addressbook, not in my Memotoo LDAP.
LDAP is the (only) addressbiook set to complete the contact emailaddress, but it is not used.
Evolution: It lets me select the completion in a dialog. I ve chosen ldap, but the contact list is empty.

I think, it must be something general, effecting Thunderbird and Evolution.

Let me come back to the telnet command: telnet ldap.memotoo.com 389
Trying 88.190.31.67...
Connected to dd32442.memotoo.com.
Escape character is '^]'.
Connection closed by foreign host.
foreign host = memotoo?

The connection takes 2 seconds, then it is closed.
Seems to be closed by memotoo, or not?

--
I tried the following:
netstat -an | grep 389
tcp 0 0 192.168.178.25:51579 88.190.31.67:389 VERBUNDEN (connected)
--
Ok, it is connected. But evolution and thunderbird seems to have no access to ldap ...
