So I have upgraded my phone from Nokoia N95 to Nokia N900.
Memotoo's list of phones includes the N900.

But now I have the N900 in my hands, I can not see anyway to add a a sync profile, like Memotoo.

Any tips/pointers??
Thanks

FWIW I'm a Nokia S60 user who was also interested in this handset, but I had a look at the user manual and I don't think a SyncML server is an available option, at least out of the box.

Hopefully some bright Maemo wizard will come up with a fix for this -- seems very odd to not have it on an open-source handset!

Andrew,

I too hope many improvements are added as we go. The Maemo 5 platform definitely fosters rapid development, so I am sure it will come along soon.
I am just disappointed that Memotoo listed the N900 as a compatible device without doing its homework.

FWIW you should be able to sync Memotoo and your N900 via Google & Mail for Exchange:

Mark from The Nokia Blog is syncing his contacts in this way:

The N900 does support device-device sync (with Symbian phones) using SyncML and also with PC Suite. Not sure what you mean by SyncML server in a device?

Hi all

I have search a solution to sync Memotoo and Maemo and I think I have found but I can't test it because the application don't work with the Maemo SDK.

So can you try to install syncevolution ??

That's for Maemo 4.

Someone tried to get it compiled for Maemo 5 but failed.
http://maemo.org/community/maemo-developers/syncevolution_in_fremantle/?org_open...

SyncML is missing in Maemo 5 currently. This is the problem.

The only way to sync is to use the Mail for Exchange.
www.nuevasync.com/ has it working for N900/Google apparently.

I am about to try it out.

Syncevolution has been ported to Maemo 5 ( http://people.debian.org/~ovek/maemo/README).

You can sync Contacts, Tasks, Notes and Calendar entries. Also the synchronisation of multiple calendars is supported. This ( http://internettabletblog.de/2009/12/30/synchronisationsgeschichten-4-dem-n900-s...) german blogpost contains a review and a tutorial on how to use syncevolution on Maemo 5.

Thanks gerd for the information

I don't have a Nokia N900 (I have just the SDK of Maemo) so I can't test syncevolution and I can't find a solution to install it easily. If you have information or script that I can add to Memotoo, I will be happy to add them in Memotoo.
I have contacted the developpers of SyncEvolution, to help me to find a easily solution.

Installing syncevolution:

1. Open the Application manager.
2. Choose "Application catalogs" -> "New"
3. Enter:

Catalog name: syncevolution
Web address: http://people.debian.org/~ovek/maemo/
Distribution: ./
Components:
Disabled: not selected

and hit "Save".

4. Install syncevolution using the Application manager. It's in the "Office" category.

Using it:

At the moment there is no GUI or applet available. So you have to use the command line.

FYI I'm fairly certain that there's a bug in SyncEvolution where the phone numbers of contacts randomly get remapped to different fields (home/mobile/work) during sync:

http://syncevolution.org/documentation/known-issues

DaveQB, if you're not syncing your contacts could you tell us how are you maintaining them on your N900? I'm also interested in purchasing an N900 sometime this year, to use with Memotoo, of course!

I have stayed away from Contact sync'ing with Memotoo. Got myself in a mess with it before on my N95, so I have just transferred by N95 contact list over [623 contacts] and make sure I run the little backup app on the N900 regularly to backup Contacts and all the other things it backs up. Restoring is quite smooth.

This works for me, as I have mostly just phones numbers on my Phones contact list and mostly emails in my Email clients addressbook.
I do want to merge the two one day...

smile Posted 2010-01-20 - 21:15     Subject: Re: N900 / Maemo5

I have set things up as per the wiki and done a manual sync - all went well.

However, I can't get the desktop button to work. The terminal window flashes up and disappears too quickly to read and I'm not sure where the log might be.

I have managed to make a screen shot of part of the session and it looks to me as though the output is what I get if I issue the command without a config name - but I can't see why it might be doing that.

I carefully created the file by copying and pasting the text from the wiki over an ssh session from my PC, so there shouldn't be any typos. Just to be sure, I retyped the 'Exec' line but that hasn't helped.

Any ideas anyone?

Ideally, I'd use cron for a scheduled sync but the N900 doesn't seem to have it.

Rgrds

Peter

PS: having checked again, I lost my calendar data and had to do a recovery sync.

Peter,

Yes the desktop link is incorrect.
I have a solution to that, that I am going to post today and perhaps change the wiki if I have permissions.

Hold tight and your solution will be here..

But I can definately say the desktop link would not have whiped your calendar. It just fails cause osso-xterm only accepts one argument.

Thanks DaveQB - I don't know what wiped my local calendar - I was playing around with a lot of things and something led to the empty calandar (but I have a vahgue idea that I will need to look into).

Thanks for the updated script but your message reminded me of the one parameter thing that I have come across before. I simply put quotes round "syncevolution memotoo" and it now works.

I haven't tried the script yet - but I have a feeling the shebang line should read: #!/bin/ash - as the N900 doesn't have bash, IIRC

I will test it later to see - I like the look of it.

Thanks for the assistance - also to Obelix for the reply (I'm not using anything called 'catorise' - I haven't heard of it)

Good pick up Peter. I have bash on my phone, first thing I installed, but yes I meant to make that shebang #!/bin/sh

And yes I have just come to realise in the maemo forums that you cn use quotes to get around the single argument issue with osso-xterm.

Thanks Peter aka filbert?

smile Posted 2010-01-25 - 22:30     Subject: Re: N900 / Maemo5

Two things:

1) I can't get notes/memos to sync. The notes on my N900 don't get uploaded nor do the memos on Memotoo get downloaded. The wiki says set the uri to 'pnote' whereas the Memotoo sync page says set it to 'note'. I have tried both.

Has anyone any suggestions? I can't see any errors in the logs.

2) I tried to set syncML to use the https web address (I'd rather use SSL) but I get an error:

[INFO] CurlTransport Failure: SSL certificate problem, verify that the CA cert is OK. Details:
error:14090086:SSL routines:SSL3_GET_SERVER_CERTIFICATE:certificate verify failed

The Memotoo cert is issued by Equifax and Equifax is in the N900 as a CA, which is about as far as I my knowledge takes me - If I log on to the https site with MicroB, that seems to be verified OK. I can't work out where the certs are stored on he N900, it might just be a case of adding the path to in config.ini but the blurb says it is using the system default.

Again, has anyone any suggestions?

Peter T,

1. I don't know what it could be. I use pnote as the wiki states and it worked first go and every time since then

2. Read: ~/.config/syncevolution/memotoo/config.ini there is info in there about ignoring cert checks. Look at SSLVerifyServer and SSLVerifyHost. I have https working fine

smile Posted 2010-01-31 - 22:48     Subject: Re: N900 / Maemo5

I can get everything working except multiple calendars - this step :

QUOTE :
To sync many calendars, duplicate the calendar config file with this command:

$ syncevolution
--configure
--template memotoo
--sync-property username="LOGIN"
--sync-property password="PASSWORD"
--sync-property clientAuthType=basic
--sync-property syncURL=" https://sync.memotoo.com/syncML"
--source-property uri="REMOTE_CALENDAR_NAME"
--source-property evolutionsource="LOCAL_CALENDAR_NAME"
CONFIG_NAME calendar

LOGIN: your login
PASSWORD: your password
REMOTE_CALENDAR_NAME: cal.XXXXX
LOCAL_CALENDAR_NAME: Name of the calendar in the phone
CONFIG_NAME: Unique name of the config name (ex: memotoo_birthdays)

END QUOTE

Does this mean I have to make multiple config files or put these same lines multiple times in the one config file - which didn't work for me ...

smile Posted 2010-02-09 - 04:54     Subject: Re: Re: N900 / Maemo5

Very helpful thread I used to fill in a few blanks to get things working.

Is anyone else having the problem of calendars on the N900 'disappearing' periodically?

I have setup two calendars that are id:3 and id:4 each to sync with different calendars in memotoo. They disappear and re-appear for no apparent reason. Sometimes a restart will 'fix' it temporarily, sometimes not. Sometimes just waiting 'fixes' it. I don't have a problem with the built-in calendars (N900 id:1 and cal_ti_calendar_private id:2). They both remain regardless, but I don't want to use these for syncing - purposely.

I have googled and searched maemo forums until I forgot what I was searching for and it seems no one is having this problem. I deleted ~/.calendar/calendardb to have it recreated, but that didn't have any effect - in fact, id:3 and id:4 magically reappeared after I deleted it once so it seems there is something somewhere else.

Also, the UI will show the calendars sometimes when syncevolution doesn't see them when running syncevolution w/out any commands/arguments. Sometimes the calendars won't show in the UI.

I'd hate to re-flash this yet again if possible. I have a nearly 99% perfect build going - syncevolution is the only devel package I'm running. Obviously, something is corrupted somewhere - just need to know what besides removing calendardb will take care of the issue.

Any help would be much appreciated.

BTW @??? - multiple config files. Just replace the references (i.e. LOGIN, PASSWORD, etc) with the correct info. That's all that command is doing - using memotoo template for each additional. To sync, type 'syncevolution whatevernameyouchose' for each.

I synced everything without problems, but the notes are in the calendar application. You have to open the calendar, and then choose memos (or whatever the name) -silly of Nokia I think

FWiW, the wiki might need some updating...

I have a N900 on loan from Nokia, and set up SyncEvolution a few days ago. The repository has moved from estamos.de but a GUI version of the app is available by activating "Extras-devel".

You can read more about my install on my blog, if you're interested:

The procedure is fairly painless now!
